UPDATE: Pedestrian dies after series of crashes on Moss Ave in West Odessa

WEST ODESSA, TX — A 61-year-old Rio Grande City man died last Thursday after being struck by a vehicle in West Odessa, reports Odessa American.

The fatal incident occurred near North Moss Avenue and West 3rd Street at about 6:17 a.m.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the pedestrian had just been involved in a separate crash when he walked into the road’s southbound lanes. Moments later, he was hit by a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Troopers said the driver of the Ram, a 51-year-old man, was trying to avoid the wrecked vehicle in the roadway when he struck the pedestrian.

The victim died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed Odessa Fire Rescue.

The driver of the Ram and his 19-year-old male passenger were not reported hurt.

It was unclear whether anyone in the wreckage of the previous crash was injured.

No further details have been released at this time.
