Driver dies after crash with tractor trailer on SH-302 in Odessa

ECTOR COUNTY, TX — A 44-year-old man died early Sunday in a collision involving a tractor trailer on State Highway 302 in west Odessa, reports NewsWest9.

The accident happened at the intersection with 8th Street at around 3:15 a.m.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the man was behind the wheel of a truck heading westbound on 8th Street when he approached SH-302 and failed to yield to the right of way. Moments later, his vehicle was hit by a southbound truck tractor that was towing a trailer.

The first driver was rushed to Medical Center Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Officials said he had not been wearing a seat belt during the crash.

No injuries to the other driver were reported.

DPS continues to investigate the collision.
